Increasing Transparency with New School Audit Bill

Regular audits not only enhance accountability but also reinforce community confidence in the integrity of our education system.."

Representative Jordan Ridley

I'm proud to share some exciting news from the Capitol—House Bill 845 has officially passed in the Georgia House.

This local measure will establish the role of an internal auditor for the Cherokee County Board of Education. This bill is about one thing: transparency — and the support it has received in the House reinforces our shared commitment to ensuring efficient and accountable government.

By implementing regular performance and financial audits, we’re taking meaningful steps to ensure our school system operates with integrity, efficiency, and accountability. These audits will give both our educators and our community members the peace of mind that resources are being managed wisely and effectively.

The internal auditor—required to be a certified professional with at least five years of experience—will have access to all relevant records to conduct both short- and long-term audits. It's a common-sense move that strengthens our schools and builds trust.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to see this legislation through to final passage. Our community, our parents and our students deserve nothing less.
